Griffith Performance Cancelled
|
Nanci Griffith's show at the Door Community Auditorium scheduled for tonight has been canceled. Griffith notified staff at the auditorium late Thursday afternoon that she is ill and will not be able to perform.
Auditorium staff will be contacting those who have already purchased tickets today.

Grutzmacher looks into the year's sales tax data
This
year, Door County has received $2,016,711.55 in sales tax distributions. During
the same period last year, the county received $2,215,327.79. This represents a
decrease of $198,616.24 or 9 percent.
And if you want a real eye-opener, how about this: the $198,616.24 decrease in county sales
tax collections translates into a $39,723,248 reduction in spending retail
spending in the county.

Room Tax Shows Slight July Slip
|
Initial room tax collection returns in July show a 3.3
percent drop in dollars collected over the same period last year when comparing
municipalities that were also collecting the tax in 2008.
Late reports are still coming in and are expected to reduce
the drop by a percentage or two. Through July, collections are down $42,483
from 2008.
Occupancy rates were down 1.33 percent in July, and the
average daily rate reported dropped slightly from $147 in 2008 to $144 in 2009.
The average daily rate dropped $7 in June from the same month in 2008.

Putting Off Two-Way Decision
|
The Sturgeon Bay Parking
and Traffic Committee recommended that the city delay a decision on a permanent
switch to two-way streets on Third Avenue until the fall of 2010. The final
decision is in the hands of the city council and could be taken up at the Oct.
6 meeting.
