Handmade Nation at School of Art Thursday


A screening of the documentary Handmade Nation will be held at the Peninsula School of Art in Fish Creek Thursday, Oct. 1 at 7pm. The film will be followed by a question-and-answer session with the film's creator, Faythe Levine.

The film reveals the emergence of the "do-it-yourself" (DIY) crafts movement in the United States, and has enjoyed worldwide recognition since its release. Its New York premier at the Museum of Arts and Design sold out.

Around the World at Players
Mark Brown's family-friendly adaptation of Jules Verne's Around the World in 80 Days, is the fifth and final production of the Peninsula Players 2009 Season. The show runs through Sunday, October 18.

This high-spirited, fast-moving and highly imaginative comic race around the world has five agile actors spanning 24,000 miles, four continents and 39 characters in two action-packed magical hours.

George E. Wahlen, a Medal of Honor recipient who was repeatedly wounded during the Battle of Iwo Jima, passed away at age 84. His grieving family announced that he died of lung cancer in Salt Lake City, Utah, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center that was named for him in 2004.

Solar Home Tour Saturday

The Door County leg of the world's largest grassroots annual solar event, the National Solar Home Tour sponsored of the American Solar Energy Society, will take place at various locations along the peninsula from 10am - 4pm. Locally sponsored by the Renewable Energy Task Force of the Door Environmental Council, the tour is in its 14th year.
